Welcome to Jesuit Missions Volunteering

Volunteering Opportunites in Africa, Asia and South America

"Men and Women for others"

Who are we?
JMV is the overseas voluntary service agency of the British Jesuits and part of the Jesuit Mission office in Wimbledon. JMV works with Jesuits and their co-workers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Volunteers are men and women whose faith calls them to live out their Ignatian spirituality in the Jesuit missions abroad : to know, to love and to serve others in Christ.

What do we do?
Our recent programme has mostly involved young adults. The type of work they have been involved in includes teaching, assisting in orphanages, working on Aids Outreach Programs and assisting in parish work. This successful programme will continue to run.

Currently we are developing a new service based on the needs of the Missions, finding skilled mature volunteers to live in areas of the community where they will be of greatest service. We would like to encourage skilled volunteers to apply for our new programme. We have already identified needs for qualified midwives, civil engineers, teachers (especially Science), houseparents at children's homes and computer specialists at our mission.

Time Commitment
  • Our programmes will start in September 2011, October 2011 and late December 2011.
  • The minimum commitment is 1 year or 6 months for some posts.
  • There will be an 8 day Orientation Training Programme at the end of July 2011 for all volunteers.
  • There will also be an optional retreat in June/July 2011.

Funding
JMV volunteers raise their own funds and live out the Jesuit motto "men and women for others"
